Barnala

20:12 by Nash. Filed under: Daily Updates

It’s time for another outing , I am going to Barnala in Punjab where my Uncle is posted at the Air Force Station. Since living in the Air Force stations is generally a relaxed life (for visitors) and there is a lot to see at the airfield etc….It’ll be a good experience.

Plus, I’ve never been to Delhi or anywhere in North India for that matter. I do not know how good the access is at Barnala, though it must be pretty decent.

Anyhow, more pics coming in…and I have to upload the ones from Nashik too.

Blogs Blocked

For all who can access this page, note that BlogSpot is blocked in India.

Although this is expected to be repealed soon, until then and perhaps permanently , I have moved and mirrored my blog here :

Wired

Getting routers to work together is rather tricky…especially if you have no prior knowledge of how either of the routers was configured. And if a multitude of protocols are involved, getting all of it to work together takes some time, observation and good old messing about :) .

I love to mess about, so I had three hours of nerdy fun while I got an ADSL router , a VoIP router and a computer to talk to each other.

Speaking of the the internet, the blogs issue is still as it was two days ago. The Blogger/Typepad blogs still dont work. Wonder why Wordpress isn’t blocked?

Update : And I just discovered that routers have a temperamental ability to lose settings upon losing power. So they are out now again until I go to Pooja’s place.

Censorship Sux!

01:25 by Nash. Filed under: All

I am guessing a lot of my friends who are also bloggers have been alarmed by the news that the *.blogspot.com domain has been blocked by Indian ISPs according to a directive issued by the DoT, Govt. of India.

Now India has always been pro-censorship, whether legal or otherwise. I wonder though, how simply blocking blog hosting web-sites like Blogger or Typepad is going to get of the basic ideas of hatred that reside in many fanatical brains. This is another example, when the bureaucrats up north think they know what is best for the country. A nation of fools and sheep, are we?

Of course, bloggers are not going to take this lying down. Numerous methods are already out there to subvert such ‘bans’; while techies will easily understand that using one of the freely available web proxies such as Unipeak can be used to access all websites, a more comprehensive list of workarounds has been posted at Censorship Wikia .

As for me, I got on to Wordpress.com and did a simple import of my blog at Blogger.

PS : I may have scared the aforementioned Maya into thinking that she has spyware on her computer when she told me that she could access her blog. Apologies! – apparently, my ISP was a little late in carrying out the directive. ;)

Memories of IITB

07:39 by Nash. Filed under: Daily Updates

While in recent months I have been too busy planning the immediate future, some nostalgia has been revived through my friend Maya’s blog. She went through the process of drawing on the computer , a graphic that I had drawn about Seminars, while goofing around waiting for the seminar to begin . :)

It’ll be funny to some, too ‘nerdy’ for others, but for me…it’s a reminder of time gone by, of two years that shaped my life that I now look back on.

To take a look head over to Maya’s blog post.

Decisions

I was pleasantly surprised to note that even though this blog hasn’t been updated for sometime, it has been recieving a steady stream of visitors. Including some from Goettingen in Germany…so who is it ? Do write to me.

Anyway, it turns out that I have decided to join the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology at Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany, in the lab of Dr.Philippe Bastiaens. Currently Dr.Bastiaens is at EMBL, Heidelberg, and as a result I will work there in his lab in Heidelberg for a few months, until the Dept.of Systemic Cell Biology of which Dr.Bastiaens will be the Director is ready. Then, I will shift to Dortmund.

That said, I now am going to visit relatives, primarily in Nagpur and Nashik and also my Uncle in Barnala. So I will be in and out of Mumbai.
