Great, I’ve lost two days of Tv viewing…Sports fans all over Mumbai are going to be dismayed. The housewives who watch the Saans Bahu serials will miss a few of the twists that Ekta Kapoor puts in , so that their concept of the story is ruined.
And who is to blame ? Pratibha Naithani. She is perhaps from the class of people who do not know how to mind their own business. She probably does not care to watch to much television and she probably does not care to watch “adult channels.” she’s no stranger to this and has been poking her nose in the affairs of public for several years. Last year she put a spanner in the works for a Hindi Film and when she thought the Mid-Day was a pornographic paper .
But here is thought , I would actually like to choose what I watch. I think it is fair considering I pay for the cable subscription , not you, Prof. Nathiani.
For your benefit though, Prof.Nathiani, I will let you know of a patented feature on your television set : it’s called the off-switch. If this feature is too complicated to use, you can choose to not tune a channel onto your television set at all…never knew that did you ?

I am only upto Page 75, and though I do not know the story of the book yet, it has been made clear that Dan Brown’s pathetic attempt to invoke scientific wonderment at his description of particle physics and matter-energy conversation , is only out-competed by the pathetic state of his knowledge of the subject.
Though the book uses references to Einstein’s predictions , theories and quotes, Mr. Brown seems to have forgotten Einstein’s most famous and iconic equation E = mc^2 , which tells us that matter and energy are essentially the same thing. He does seem to admit the likeness of matter and energy , as a ‘breakthrough’ discovery of the future.
Further, he goes on to suggest that a Big Bang brought about by colliding particles (of matter of course) that have been accelerated using energy (from CERN of course) is equivalent to creating matter out of nothing. You just smashed a lot of matter and energy together, you moron, are you even surprised that you got matter and energy back out of it ?
It may be of interest to Mr.Dan Brown that there is such a thing as a God particle, and even an Oh-my-God particle and that his descriptions of cutting edge science are terribly outdated. I am sure the people at CERN are cursing you for making them appear like neanderthals in science.
On the last page I read, there is a quote from Ms.Vetra, on of Dan Brown’s characters. “Good Science fiction has its roots in Good Science.” I guess that definitely puts your book firmly out of the sci-fi genre. May I suggest, that good fiction of any kind has at least one of its roots in better research done by the authour.
This may yet turn out to be a better story then it is a reflection of facts… , but I seriously think writers should do their homework or stick to their expertise.
Update : Same book….Protons are the antimatter counterparts of electrons…it seems. And I am a pink elephant.

I am writing this blog so early in the morning and just discovering the pleasure of writing a post while on the bed, sipping coffee , with a refreshed mind.
Sleeping early in the evening left me wide awake at 4.30 am today…and while doing odd jobs like sending over a book to a friend over the internet, I thought it would be a good time to write about the eventful weekend. I just got back in touch with Amey Nadkarni , my best friend from school. Happenings in the past had diverged out paths for some time, and I admit that I had a certain degree of complacency in fixing that.
Thanks to Pooja , I did meet him eventually, and found that while time has wrought a lot of changes in him, the chemistry we had before is still there. There was no hesitation, and I could talk just as freely as before. In case you’re thinking this is beginning to sound mushy , it’s not. It’s just about meeting people who you spend a lot of time with and then suddenly drift away.
It seemed that the theme for this weekend was nostalgia, as I also met the group of family friends that we had any-a-dinner and weekend trips with, the most memorable being a beach trip to Revdanda (Kashid Beach, Raigad, Maharashtra). The eldest of the kids is now getting married, and those that I saw as toddlers are now finishing school and starting college.
I know I am too young to feel this way, but I am beginning to understand what getting too involved in your own activities and missing what happens in the world means…

Once upon a time, in a college of old, there was (and still is ) a Professor who amused his students often with his….er…’unconventional’ use of language.
As as all things in the cosmos must be in a balance, he had a student named Sarada who was equally willing to take down his words, well…word for word, so that she could appreciate their intensity later.
Sarada said :
these are perfectly quoted!….dont change them at all….:)!

The last 20 days have been rather eventful, both pleasant and unpleasant. Let me start with the good news : my shopping is all over to leave for Germany….and I now have a good rucksack , shoes, chlothing and a brand new HP Pavilion DV5200TX.
I spent some time setting it up with the OSes and software I use. Meanwhile I also gave a short lecture at my alma mater St.Xavier’s College on DNA Supercoiling, determined to try and offer a better explanation of it , then I had in my B.Sc days. At least I thought it went of well
The IITB Convocation took place on August 11th, and I am finally a degree holder of Master of Science. The IITB chapter is finally over.Rearing for the new stuff…
I finally planned to leave for Germany on the 6th of September, early morning.
And now for the bad news, a death in the family, my cousin’s dad. It was rather untimely, and though he was ill, it was very unexpected. I’d been to his place, the whole day for part of the final rites, and they are being very brave and composed.
Once more, I feel like 2006 is a year of turmoil….rapid changes taking place all around me. New places, people, ideas and changes in the perception of the world, changes in responsibilities and so on are coming up in various spheres and it seems like the cosmic recycler is going on full force..
